WATCH: Melissa Brings Sexy Back In Nanana كليب ميليسا - نانا

She is Lebanses but she has what it takes to be a pop sensation around the globe. She has the voice, the looks and the teams who want to work with her. After doing three songs duets with the likes of Akon, she is now ready to step on her own for the world to meet her.

This time she is not doing Arabic, but rather a song that Arab youth can appreciate along with the global audience--say the club around Europe and Russia. I dig the new look and to be frank, had this song been released in Europe first, it will be all over their radio stations. She worked with a London based team that took their work and the star seriously. There is also a foreign director who seem to know his way around the pop style music videos.

This is how it works, you just need to have connection with the producers and the radio people who can bring your song to play around. "Nanana" is the title and it's catchy song that locusts on the beat and the motions. There are too many cool looks, and I must admit, this is a good choice and hope the song travels. I do not think her new single lacks one thing.

It seems the song has been picked and well-received by the fans out there, it seems now she has more friends than enemies. People like successful artists and like to pick winners. Also this is a good exercise song, it gets your engine running. You cannot match the energy, if you had any more, things will start exploding.

The Ramallah native, the 23 year old up and coming pop star Lian Bazlamit has been thinking of bigger things than herself. Palestine, her love and her home. She has a new song that touches your heart and wamrs your soul. Something about the topic, brought the best we have heard Lian be. This is a personal song with a lot of heartache as one listens.

We still sing to Palestine since 1948, and will continue to do so. Lian is shaping up her career to be the best entertainer to come out of Palestine and continue to claim it as a homeland. Lian lives in Jordan at the moment where she goes to school.

I must show some respect to the lyricist and the composer, they have created a good thing here, something that Lian turned into a special song that will live on and be a credit to this young entertainers' career. She came a long way form her early days on Star Academy two years ago. She chose the right moment to release this song, land day in Palestine....every March 31, we are there.

Did God find Fadel Shaker or did later found him? Either way, the now retried pop and romance hit-maker is back with a new spiritual song or a hymn that he just released. I got to say, it's not half as bad. I may not see eye to eye with the singer, but he still has what God has granted him--his voice.

And if doing spiritual songs would keep him rocking, be my guest. This is would be a pop song had it talked about love and not God. But this is a smooth song about vice and virtue. I like it and happy to see the artist doing something that fill him with joy. His political opinions aside, I won't pile on Fadel Shaker.

Lebanese pop songstress is out with a new song about doing the right thing, about the human conscious! Why do we not care anymore? Where is our heart? Why so much injustice? This is would be an easy song to write if you have been following the fallout of the Arab Spring.

Amal Hijazi is a unique voice, and a gentle soul, she is singing in Egyptian and this seems like a song that she wanted to sing, not your average I am in love and silly tracks. The message is bigger than one person. Unlike her peers, Amal is not great at promoting herself, she is not the biggest self-promoter but she is person with a good moral character. And she found the song that she felt.

Tamer Hosny might be doing American pop a huge favor, he is stimulating the economy by his big spending as he pays top names to collaborate with him. The latest star to charge Tamer Hosny a fee is American rapper Akon (by the way of Senegal) Tamer went to Akon's home and studio and we have the footage from the behind the scenes.

I think there is a new Tamer is town and he means serious business. I do not think he will ever become a global icon, not for his lack of trying, but he is already big in the Arab world. He has already singed with top companies who want to sell their stuff to Arabs. So his new duet with Akon might not do that much, other than adding to his resume.

I like Akon and think he is a smart business guy. Watch the two work together on the song as Akon tries to pick few words and they are working on a music video too. There are simply too many douche bags in this video who think they are all that  important.

I think this would be a fun project, I would ask Tamer, take it easy, save your money and go back to Nasr Mahrous--he knows how to bring the best in you and how to put you in a hit.

This is not just your average song, it's an epic track that lasts 13 minutes. A duet between two artists you would never see sing together, yet they came together for this odd pair song between the Saudi romance and pop icon Abdel Majid Abdallah and his peer from Egypt Amal Maher. This new song of theirs is like panting with words, they do get you to see something using nothing but words and your rich imagination.

Amal Maher seems to have locked in the best voices in Saudi Arabia, the legends. Last month she had a song with the elder of Saudi song Mohamed Abdo. This time she has teamed up with another talented Saudi super star. Abdel Majid Abdallah, not sure how they get to work together. Something tells me the song writer or poet gets to chose who sings their songs.

It's a sweet song that starts very slowly and then picks up 5 minutes into the song. I think the music could have been a little bit more exciting than what I hear. I like both artists, they are classy voices who have a brand and prestige. I do not see as a great song, but it has great elements and Amal Maher seems to be holding back. The title is true as all women will attest, "Beauty Has A Secret"

Stay tuned, the last bit of the song, you know for sure this is a wedding song, in the House of Saudi, there is a big wedding and the song picks the dance in the last two minutes.

Bassem Yousef Shouldn't Go To Jail, But He Should Think Twice

$

The famed Egyptian host of some TV show with satire news is being sued. For more on his legal woes, visit this Arabic link it details some of the charges. To be clear, Baseem is no hero of mine. You too should be tired of being told who your heroes are. I am sick of lies circulating around the internet that conservative Muslims are the ones who want Bassem Yousef in Jail. I think it's safe to say, a lot of business interest people want to see him in jail. This is not a joke, you see laws of defamation and libel are tricky even in the West. You could be in serious trouble if someone has a serious case against you.

Per US Legal Journal
Most defendants in defamation lawsuits are newspapers or publishers, which are involved in about twice as many lawsuits as are television stations. Most plaintiffs are corporations, businesspeople, entertainers and other public figures, and people involved in criminal cases, usually defendants or convicts but sometimes victims as well.

Bassem is not doing his show for free, he has a contract worth millions, and with that comes a great deal of prestige and access. I bet he enjoys all that fame and media attention he received from around the world. I love how American media is using this ordeal to further damage Egypt and get back at president Morsi--the guy who won an election.

I have one question, do you think if Bassem Yousef was a support of the president of Egypt, the international media would care what happens to them? No! Not in a million year. It's all about self-interest. CNN and such follow Bassem only because he is casing trouble in Egypt and because he is critical of the democratically elected president.

All he has to know, those media folks who cheer him on, will be with him so long as he stays on the same page with them. The moment he tries to do or say something un-american or hostile to the West, they all will jump ship. So he would lose at home and lose abroad.

Every night of the week, Bassem Yousef finds a way to call the Morsi an idiot, and when he is not on air, he is tweeting about him. As someone who holds freedom of speech to be absolute  I know there is no such thing.

Bassem Yousef is milking his 15 minutes of fame, and his friends are talking about him as if he is some modern-day Martin Luther King. MLK did not have a million dollar contract, MLK did not insult people for money, MLK did not try to embarrass his foes. Let's stop pretending Bassem is fighting the good fight. He is just fighting for a pay check.

Now, I do not want to see him jailed for stuff he said, he should not have to be subjected to a witch haunt. He must now know, that he is playing with the fat cats, and if he tries to rock the boat too much, he would be shown the door.

On another note, is Bassem Yousef being patriotic? I do not think he puts Egypt first! It only takes one deranged person to ruin the reputation of an entire nation, Bassem Yousef has entertained so many people and in the process he has mocked all things that make Egypt the place loved by so many people. Because last thing, Egypt needs is a voice that promotes divisions.

If things get serious  I am certain he would not have a hard time moving somewhere else and doing his who--I think he might actually end up doing that, I see him doing his show in Dubai or even Beirut. It's sad but Egypt right now is in a delicate state.

Mohammed Assaf‎, The Palestinian Winner Of Arab Idol?

The young Gazan who appeared on Arab Idol was a welcome guest on Arab Idol, the judges received him warmly, and saluted him. That's even before he opened his mouth and sang, when he did she owned that room and had a freaking YES from each of the judges who had nothing but love for this young top gun.

I do not know how far Mohammed Assaf‎ will go on Arab Idol, I know this if he shows the same level of talent and skill in the audition, he is going home with the trophy  He chose to do a song for Abdel Halim, and he owned it. Assaf has been a local artist in Gaza and it took some miracles for him to be on the show--he had to go to Egypt first for the audition and had to do a convincing job over there.

I have been watching the comments on this young fine Palestinian talent, and I am seeing many fans out there for him--thanks to his skill first and the sophistication of the Palestinian media. Going forward Mohammed Assaf‎ has to give his best and always his best. He may compete and win the title but it won't be easy. He has to figure out the best songs for him and has to make the judges happy.

Assaf has already recorded half a dozen songs, some for Palestine and some romantic songs, the showing he had ar Arab Idol has made a lot of people happy. Hope he won't have an off day next time. Welcome to prime time.

No idea who this guy is, but someone gave him a shot at making a music video that was supposed to be funny. Maybe it's meant for people with a different taste, but I do not get it. I understand it's meant to be a treat for people who like a little laughter at the expense of the common man of Egypt.

His name is Abu Greisha and he is one of the people. He wears sporty clothes, rides a bike and looks like one of those average people. He has half a dozen of kids whom are glued to him. The odd facotr is the appearance of good ball Sha'abi singer Sha'ban Abdel Rahim on the clip. Spot them as the leader of the neighborhood watch group.

The song is about making all the wrong decisions  he tells the subject of the song to go ahead and take another wrong call. Abo Greish is not star, but his voice is not as bad as some of those voices I have heard in the psst.

The mega star, the song of Egypt Mohamed Fouad bright so much energy and interest into the X factor that the judges are wondering if this guy should comeback again. His warmth and affection are written over each of his songs. And he took time to speak with the Xtra Factor segment answered some questions and spoke about being part of the show.

He is king among his are the ones who are competing on the X Factor, they had so much love for him and spoke on how much he means to them. Each has its favorite song by Fouad. That's something you cannot buy with money.  He is so mature and knows how speak with a realist tone and give hope. Cannot wait for his new album....he ignited the stage.

The low of the interview when he spoke about him being on the judges--he said I could not do it, and disappeared. He is the big brother each of us wishes to have.

He might as well be Saudi Arabia's most exciting young pop star, he might be the coolest one too. But inside the Kingdom he is a hero to too many youngsters  While at home, you would never guess this is the cool guy you see in the music video below, but step outside that place and the cool kid is out of the bag.

Rakan everyone and he has a music video for you, I am loving it. He has the Afro and the retro look it looks so natural to him. Enjoy the urban sitting for this fairy tail of a song. Where the hell did he find all these young people for his music video? I love the dangerous elements in the music video, the dancers and the performers do a wonderful job.

This is one heck of a stylish music video...Rakan knows how to look good. Guns and actions he can do that too.

What's With Arabs Singing French?

The Voice is making a killing in ratings and advertisers money. One of the mentors is Kathem Al Saher, the classy voice form Iraq who has managed to largely keep his public image. He wanted to test one of the voices on the show, a young Moroccan with the name Youssra. Kathem kindly requested from the presenter and the young songstress to give him a taste of doing a song in a foreign language.

Youssra did not shy away, she picked a French song "S'il Suffisait D'aimer" by the French Canadian Celine Dion and did she blow it out of water? It feels like she did. I am looking at Lebanese and peoples of the West side of the Arab world who have adopted the French tongue. I like educated people and learning a new language should be rewarded.

But let's not sit here and pretend that speaking a foreign language make you a classy person. Class is something you learn form your family--namely your mother.

My Choice For The Best Female Entertainer Is Houda Saad - Bik N3ich 2013 هدى سعد - بيك نعيش

Housa Saad is a world-class and well rounded entertainer. The songstress-cum composer-cum lyricist is a credit to her people in Morocco. She is truly one force not to be reckoned with. She has so much music training under her belt, but most of all her feel for what's fresh and good is unmatched  Most Arab pop divas pay other dudes to write and compose music for them.

Not Houda, she has all the skills to go it alone. And you know what, sometimes this is risky, but Houda is always dazzling and never repeats herself. She is an innovator and knows how to make them hits. The size of her gift keeps on growing. I love how much energy her songs have, but the lyrics are very poetic and meaningful at the same time.

I only say this because I am enjoying the one single from her "Bik N3ich"  It's a great mix song, perfect for dancing. Another thing about Houda, two years ago, she said she will try to take the Moroccan song into a new territory. And she has done just that. With her touches, the song from Morocco is something special unlike no other. The new track is so crisp and so rich with thrill of a hit song that you have the privilege to hear fro the first time.

Some artists have good voice, others have good showmanship! Houda has those naturally. Yet she ups the bar and has perfected her writing skills and her music composing talent. I wish she gets a chance to own the prime time for a little bit--she has a lot to share. I know she gets little help in Morocco, but she has decided to stay and fight.

Keep them coming, I love your new single and have always considered you one hell of an entertainer. It's about time Moroccan music had its very own proud mascot who inspires hope and shows strength. Houda might just take the Moroccan song beyond the borders of the Arab World. Lebanese song has Najwa Karam, the Egyptian song has Amr Diab, and now the Moroccan song has the very skillful and never dull Houda Saad

50 Shades of Grey might be the talk of town in America  but Sijal and his sexy lady copes are the talk of those fitly boys. Women in short uniforms with authority turn some people on and he did all that in Lebanon in a music video about the battle of the sexes.

Got no idea what's the message of this random music video, but the dudes are taking it seriously as those oversexified police women take a stand. Models dancing on cars is nothing new...but I do like the line about her grandfather traveling via jackasses not fancy rides.

But it gets worse and never gets better. This is a dance song about a guy who goes bankrupt because he gets his woman all she wants. I have never seen cops stripping, in real life.I weep for the sext interrogator portion, it makes it look fun. No woman would find anything of value in this very stereotypical music video where women are the entertainment.

For a guy whose wife and his daughter have no Arabic names, it's pretty gutsy for him to claim he is some Arab knight. And his own daughter sings in English and talks about her Canadian citizenship. Might as well be a non Arab people. But wait, I doubt she speaks a sentence without dropping a French or English words in the midst.

And I am sure she did not go to an Arabic school. But enough about Assi Hallani and his family. I like real people who tell it as it is. It might speak more about Lebanon and its Beirut district. I get this Assi has a strong career, but why does his daughter have to be an accomplished songstress? Are the parents pushing her?

I think she can have fun doing those acts in here and there, but does the family need any more money? Or any more fame? I do not hate or envy success  I just do not take kindly on those who claim to be one thing and live and act in a different manner at home.

With her gigantic googly eyes, Lebanese super diva is judging you. The scene starts with a guy who is a cheater--note the difference between a cheater and a player. Filmed in Paris, telling a romantic story about those who are in love but the other person is not being upfront about his past. This music video is about breakups and heartache. But aside form that, I do not think Thierry Vergnes added much to the music video. It feels average.

This is a romantic story when it took a wrong turn. When you cheat, do not comeback for a do-over, Carole won't let you easily off the hook. Some people move on and others get stuck in the past, with nothing good going their way emotionally. The song came on her album released on March 13 with 13 tracks, this was the number one hit song and it did deliver the heat. Its composer's name does not sound Arab, he might be Turkish.

This is the curtain call when you want to turn the page once you have had your closure. Salime Assaf wrote the lyrics and showed once again he is the most sensitive lyricist who has show he really get women. The song is not about roses and sunshine, but dark moments. I like some of the affects the director have used.  There are so many tears.

According to this site, the clip was removed by Rotana several minutes after its release. This might be a publicity stunt to get more media stories. According thing according to this Tweeter guy, comes the following image:

Video: Chafik Nibou Is The Most Bizarre Audition On Arab Idol 2

$

He is Moroccan and he thinks he can sing. He did a number in Arabic and another song in Spanish--according to the judges he has better luck in Spanish. But this is nothing, the cast of Arab Idol were not ready for this guy. Chafik Nibou  made a number of bizarre  claims that are if true are shocking. See when he walked into the Arab Idol on camera audition, he was really pissed off, you see it in his eyes.

  1. You guys are not important, I can make it on my own
  2. I produced my own stuff in Egypt and moved to Lebanon for more work
  3. Nasr Mahrous used to work for me
  4. Hassna Abu El Soud wrote me a song, but then changed his mind.
  5. Sherine, the Egyptian diva used to be a backup singer in my band.
Chafik Nibou is a very confident man, and it was so fresh and so funny to see the judges try to handle that. I do not think he is all that great, he does have something in his Spanish singing--he says he is from Northern Morocco. When he walked away from the show, he spilled the beans, mockery is all I got. People drinking?  They made fun of my clothes...etc.

This is so funny, and I respect Chafik Nibou for holding his ground and bragging about his past. boy does he hate Sherine? He seems to have made another enemy, Ahlam. He also might be upset for not being treated well. He hates Arab Idol--why did he take part of it? He is talking about Beirut, and the executives are mean and rude to the participants.  I could see that and I agree with him for the lack of class.

Who among has an hour nowadays to spend watching (listening really) to a great song? I love you Warda, but it seems the time is not right anymore for us to set and listen to one of your most celebrated songs "Akbib 'Aleek", while it;s a great song by all accounts, the song will live on long after we all have gone away.

But for ease sake, I have both versions, the full 56 minutes long original song and the quickie version under 10 minutes. The remains one the most remade songs by young talents--namely women who find their voices made for this beloved hit. The late Warda had so many wonderful songs, that live in our collective memory. She is the voice of our emotions and sentiments when we are in love and when the passion is there.

It's no breaking news, that Warda is one of the few things Egypt and Algeria agree on--sadly. No better person Algeria has the kind of love Egypt has for Warda and her art.

Artists hate war, they have always been like that, and for one Syrian diva Rouwayda Attieh is out with a new song about peace. I cannot make out the politics of the song, but I know it feels human. I know pro president Assad would find it good and the same goes for the revolutionaries.

There is one true bit in it, we have not attacked anyone, they attacked us, occupied our land and then turned around and told us we are the problem. Maybe the Golan heights is on her mind at the moment. I like the reference to the churches and schools where the people are praying for peace.

The song starts strong, my land is seeing a lot of tragedy, enough with the disasters and promises. Enough is enough. Rouwayda Attieh had to be courageous to get involved in this topic, but once a Syrian always one. Her fans are all over the world would agree on this track specially about the dreams of her grandfather. It shows tradition and faith.
