Bahaa Soultan's New 2014 Album Makes Him The Biggest Iraqi Pop Star

Iraqi gave birth to a pop star who as soon as he was able to get a passport moves to Cairo and worked on his music career. Bahaa Soultan became the gold standard in gifted artists who have found a place in Egypt to welcome them, their talent and let them shine. He is one of the few success stories....and after ten albums, he is about to release his latest album....

He sounds so grown up, so excited to be back in the game....his last album came out in 2011, and I still listen to it till now and find it entertaining. This is the gift of Bahaa Soultna, his new track and old one always offer things for the listener.

This is the first track from his upcoming album, "Asibak" should I leave you? Why would I do that? I love the sax music, it kind of adds a whole new feel to the song without being too overpowering to Bahaa's voice who can hold his own ground.

It looks like Saber El Robai is ready to take his music career seriously....he seems to have traveled worlds to bring back a decent album and not one that has been music by music executives and formulas. This time the artist triumphed over the business guy who gave us a fresh love album with a love variety....frankly this album feels like a labor of love. Even though this is his second album in less than 18 months, he still has game.

The judge on The Voice has been missing in the market of good songs, that show his uniqueness and strengthen...but now he found a decent way to make an album, and I like his careful selected tracks...he even has a song for the late Warda declaring how much he loves her music.

This album makes nice with many of his fans who started to question his talent--why do we even like this guy? This album reminds us of the older Saber, the song who have something fresh and real to give.

Haitham Shomali Says #Palestine Best! The Most Versatile Pop Star

$

Haitham Shomali is a wholesome Palestinian artist, he is above all a musician before he is a pop star. Which add to his profile more complexity which be brings from being a composer. Another layer that adds to Haitham's talent is being a Palestinian from the diaspora who lived in half a dozen countries including the United States. This is why one of his songs might as well be one of the finest songs has ever been written about and for Palestine.

This track is about hope, tomorrow, family and the motherland. Haitham sounds smooth as he spells out these words straight from his heart. He sounds like he believes these words, not must a song, but his very own personal declaration. Being a Palestinian has not made things easy for Haitham, but it has shaped his character, honed his talent and sharpened his senses. In more ways than one, he is beginning to feel like a young yet incredible virtuoso.

He is a family man with a heart of gold, he calls Palestine, a place where peace finds a home, so you know he is about getting along, but not letting go of what's valuable. As for the song, it feels very Lebanese in heart and soul. It's if Wael Kfoury had a younger brother who brings so much more to the music industry. A dreamer is who made this song and it convinces listeners to dream big and love--when love has conquered you, hate is not even an option. As the song progresses, it becomes more positive and therefore would bring the best in people by appealing to their human side.

Perhaps one can think about this, other Palestinian pop stars live inside Palestine, for Haitham it seems Palestine lives inside him. This is why his idea of Palestine is so innocent yet so real because to him Palestine is this blank page, that can be whatever he wishes it to be. But he is more than just a guy who loves the land and write her songs, he has a playful side which serves his good looks well. There are many romantic songs he has released throughout his career. And one thing never changes, Haitham Shomali works harder to get to where he is....he is not backed by a government, just the love of his fans who fuel his career.

This is a song that no one needed, no one was asking for and no one will remember. By the colorful Essam Karika. This time Essam is introducing a new voice that goes by the name Hanan Attia, and they are all about snowmobiles and looking really hot on the snow. The filmed in Beirut 50 kilometers north of the Lebanese capital.

I am not to interested in seeing a recreation of some dumb Hollywood movie. I freaking hate the outfits and the chemistry---she might be half his age. The song is about a man and a woman who are in love, but we do not see why would they fall in love in the first place. Not an appealing production.

One day I will one day be thin, but Essam Karika will always be the singer of this duet. The director has created one hell of a yawn fest..

He Rest In Peace, The #Palestine Revolution Singer Abu Arab فلسطين تودع ابو عرب

He is a true old soul, he is Palestine's number one artist for the past fifty years, this is Abu Arab and he has passed away. He lives to be 84 years of age, but he will live longer in the memory of those who have loved his style. He is Mohammad Abu Salhe, but the name we know him of is Abu Arab.

Abu Arab had released more than 300 songs and mawals all for Palestine. While he might be old enough to be my grandpa, he kept his rock star persona till he taken away from us. His name means the father of Arabs, a cool name that states one's pride in being an Arab. He is an elderly man who knew nothing but Palestine.

Fateh, the Palestine Authority have loved him and cheered him on, they brought him back from the exile to sing in Ramallah, and he did show up, as the original cast of the band he headlines for sixty years...he passed away in the Syrian city of Homs, he sang even on his deathbed he had it going and to be frank he has always been the memory, the hard drive of the Palestine folklore an struggle.

Among Palestinian folksy artists he is a legend at home and in the diaspora. He may have never found peace as a Palestinian but now he rests in peace...

The Real Classic Song Satirized By Bassem Yousef الوطن الأكبر - مجموعة الفنانين

Simple put, there's no other Arabic songs that features so many legends, divas and figures from the Arabic music scene as this song. No small-time appeared on this work, and this is was it has defied age. Most of the people on this Operetta are now no longer with us, but their songs and emotions are staying on God's earth. A song about the Greater Arab homeland....by the legends. This is not a song one does for their egos, the big names who were all young then singed up when they knew Abdel Wahab would compose the music. Their personalities took a back seat. Note, the fun fashion show from around the Arab world. Those were the fun tiimes.

Warda, Shadia, Abdel Halim Hafiz, Mohammad Abdel Wahab, Sabah and so on. It's a classic song that pumps blood in one's heart and soul. Talking about unity without getting political. No other Arab disagree on the role layed by this song--it might as well be the national anthem for Arabia. We have all agreed on this song and have voted for it.

You get artists from mostly Egypt, but Lebanon, Syria and Algeria have their talents. This is a great quality for this classic song where good music, meets inspirational messaging about unity sand freedom. There is no bigger celebration of Arab stars than this song "El Watan El Akbar" For those who disagree on the politics right now, they need to watch this clip to remember how we used to think forty and fifty years ago.

Assi Hallani Nadine Rassi Are The Sun And The Moon عاصي الحلاني ونادين الراسي شمس وقمر

Music theater in Beirut is making a comeback. A play about unity among people and working without the elite running their country.  Assi Hallani is Qamar--a guy who revolts against the dictator. Shams is his lady friend who buys into his idealism. There are ten songs in the play and they seem to have a high level of energy.

I am reading that the script is missing, and the focus is not on the dialogue but the music as one is attending a concert. Plus the plot seems a little tired and presents little fresh ideas.

I do not know much about music theater, but I have seen few shows, I think they burn through money very quickly, good writing helps, but art direction is where the money should be. A star is not important, there are so many unknown artists who came to be famous after playing a role live theater. The dazzle element need to be there, the production cannot go cheap, there has to be props, lights and sound equipment that work. This is why the play is now at the Casino Lebanon stage.

Assi seems to want to answer his critics, "I still got it", dancing on stage, singing, acting and looking good. The only weak point I see, is that Assi is the main attraction while the lead female is a delight to watch, Assi seems to hog the time and reduce Nadine into a supporting role. To his credit he has few years on her as a showman and an entertainer -this is his turf. The opening night had to much attention from the press, the politicians, and the industry.

Bassel Alzaro From Marketing To Presenting The X Factor

Many of those voices competing on the X Factor won't have much once the season concludes. The host of the show however will always have few things to do once the show ends. This is Bassel Alzaro who is the presenter of the show. He is a seasoned spokesperson and talks about his career on the side where he works in marketing and branding.

He is an Egyptian guy who likes to talk big about his career. He is young and presentable, but he makes no secret about seeking better things once this show is over. He is well traveled and seems to be a cultured soul.

But the entire show is about branding, do not you see how Pepsi's logos and products all over the show?

Ahmed Awad Finds God In His Surrounding

Music is the coolest way to worship, pair it with some images from the nature, and one has a breath-taking experience. Now, if the artists has a decent voice, one cannot help but ponder God and his creations. I know Muslims are not asked to think too much about God, but rather his creations....this is one way to do that. Egyptian Ahmed Awad has a song, in fact an entire album about supplications and prayers he brings to the fans out there.

I think prayer, and worship is the way, worship require going through the motions, and not just asking for things.

Bless the mother that gave birth to Salim Assaf, the Lebanese composer, writer, and singer. He is back with a new single that feels all too real. Salim writes his heart out, he sings it with the same force, and the reality this guy is a smartest and most savvy composer working in Lebanon. More and more he is competing against the same artists he gave them his best work. But now it's competition and that creates bad blood.

Salim released the song, and I actually listened to it first in Lebanon at some radio while ridding in the car. The song is about reaching the limit' one cannot think no more or handle all the pain, so he lagush to stop from crying. It's a song about being hurt and being left alone, I have so many places of hurt, you won't find a place to hurt me in.

It's a darker song, and its fits the general climate in Lebanon at the moment. I love the music, it's pretty sophisticated for Salim Assaf. I love the oud, and the percussion, The guy sings like he is talking to a guy next to him, it's not a song for the masses, but rather an intimate setting. It's an upset song from a dude who has seen it and has decided not to care anymore.

The Aging Rock Star Die Hard, Exhibit A Medhat Saleh اغنية مدحت صالح - كلاكيت

Medhat Saleh is like an aging rock star who keeps getting gigs here and there since he he is good, second he is still relevant. This time, Medhat Saleh got a song for an upcoming movie, the song is about life and the wisdom pop songs offer in such songs.

I like Medhat Saleh who seems to have gotten philosophical lately, the song is called Deja Vu, or once again, a song about how things keep getting messed up for the person. You can never go wrong with these songs in Egypt, everyone blames his woes on life not on the choices they made.

This song is about the salt of the earth, an average person who wants nothing but to live. The beast is nothing earth-breaking, but the lyrics are fine. This is a teary song, if you relate to it, you will get into it and mess yourself in the head. Solution, get out there and try again, feeling helpless won't change a thing.

Most Arab countries have billboards, these billboards have been rented by team Nancy Ajram to drum up the buzz about her upcoming 8th album. So, now radios have one track from her soon to be released album, and it's a riot.

This is an Egyptian dancy track with so much energy, it may be explosive. This is a loud melody with a folksy Egyptian hints, "come here and let me love you boy" Nancy finds another hit, a song that will play over and over this upcoming summer. We might as well memorize it now, because it will be the life of the party at every wedding or engagement party for at least three years from now.

"Ma Tegi Hena" is a very Nancy Ajram song, the team behind it must have collected some find rewards. I like the catchy lyrics, Nancy always play the innocent yet spunky young woman whom you can own by saying all the sweet things.

Forgive, and you shall win this is the message by Maher Zain, the Muslim rock star who roams the world to do a face lift for Islam. We may disagree, but not hate, our humanity requires us to communicate. I love the song, it's always a good time to preach virtue.

We need to co-exist, and progress, I like these messages Maher Zain, but I think it's too late for that as we watch extremist groups in Syria butchering and torturing people in the name of Islam. I think the better message would have been, do not be sectarian, if someone makes sense, do not use their faith/sect/views against them.

This is how we lost, when we start attacking one another, and calling the other an infidel. I am sure that Maher is watching the same news reports I am watching in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq. And yes in Egypt as well. The problem that no one is strong enough to come out with a compromise. It's always a zero-sum game, everything or nothing.

@DoniaSGhanem New Single Has a Santana Feel "El Wad El Lou" #Roznama_Records

No one in Egypt or in Arabia is as cool as Egyptian actress turned songstress. In the history of pop, no new comer has releases as many hits in their debut as did Donia. Not even Nancy Ajram, and not even Elissa did what Donia Samir Ghanem. The secret, she did it with so many styles all at once. She led the romantic song and got people to open up their hearts and expose themselves. She did it with a break up song that shows strength through weakness, it showed the very fine line between love and hate.

And Donia Samir Ghanem  shows us she has it with her social song, love thy family message that landed in the heart. And she affirmed her solid status with they we are getting married song that really made the ladies happy as the track spoke their minds. She communicated, we are getting married and getting to that point requires a lot of work, and costs. But once this is all over we got one another.

She returns with a new single, and it feel a lot funkier than her past tracks. It feels African or perhaps a bit of Santana to my ears, and it speaks about playboys who mess around. Donia Samir Ghanem released almost all tracks of her album about once every two months, and now I am not sure if she is interested in releasing this album after all. Or perhaps, she is using a s a teaser campaign to establish her name and music credit to jump straight to the concert option.

"El Wad El Lou" is a catchy song that will be popular with young people or people who think they are players. It's one of her many talents to reach out to different demographics.

Eizza Almarzoug Is The Coolest Kuwaiti EVER! Here's Why....

Eissa Almarzoug walked out of Star Academy, a better artist than he was, he was certainly a bigger name. Luckily for us, his latest single came with the music of Fayez Al Said, so we know it will be cool.

Eissa is a Kuwaiti artist who like to record and release upbeat tracks. I know there are many young artists in the Gulf area, Eissa excited me the most among all the new breeds. He is super cool, and he looks the part--which the hardest thing to do for most Gulf musicians. He is a singer for the fun of it, not planning a career in it so far. He also plays the lute--oud.

His voice is like a perfume that goes all over the room once spritz. I like the dance melody, and how he feels about his loved one--she is like my oxygen.

@carnegiehall Presents an Evening of Traditional Sufi Music with Asif Ali Khan Qarral

On Saturday, March 22 at 8:30 p.m., Asif Ali Khan, a musician widely regarded as the reigning prince of the Sufi music known as qawwali, performs in Zankel Hall with his eight-member qawwali ensemble. Khan is from a family of renowned Sufi musicians and was the student of the celebrated late qawwali master Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. (Khan was once hailed by the maestro as one of his best students.) An icon in his native Pakistan, Asif Ali Khan is one of qawwali music's finest living exponents, and is becoming a powerful figure on the international stage as the traditional music grows in popularity. While praised for his inventiveness, Khan remains faithful to the sublime traditions of this devotional music with songs that often build from a meditative and trance-like state to a thrilling and energetic spectacle. Of his craft, Khan says, "we aren't singing as much as listening to God's instructions with our souls." This concert is presented by Carnegie Hall in partnership with Robert Browning Associates LLC.

Dating back over 800 years, qawwali is an energetic musical performance of Sufi Muslim poetry that aims to lead listeners to a state of religious ecstasy—to a spiritual union with God. The music was popularized outside of South Asia in the late 20th century. Deriving its name from the Arabic word qaul, meaning "to speak," qawwali is a musical vehicle by which a group of male musicians—called qawwals—delivers inspirational Sufi messages to a traditionally male assembly of devotees. A typical qawwali ensemble consists of one or two lead vocalists; a chorus of hand-clapping qawwals who sing the refrains; a harmonium player, who supports the fixed melody as well as the melodic improvisations of the soloist; and a percussionist, who articulates the metric framework using a dholak (double-headed drum) or a tabla.

About the Artist
Asif Ali Khan, a favorite student of the late, great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, expands on the legacy of his teacher with his brilliant inventiveness. Since Nusrat's death in 1997, Khan has participated in tribute concerts and recordings dedicated to the memory of his teacher, while developing a style and presence of his own. Remaining faithful to the 800-year-old traditions of devotional Sufi music, Khan has also become hugely popular on the international stage. His own style of qawwali—based on the Punjabi Ang form, similar to the style of his late master—boasts full-throated vocals and energetic rhythms, switching from meditative and trance-like to thrilling, ecstatic crescendos. To hear his voice soar above the call-and-response choruses, rhythmic hand claps, percussion, and harmonium of his accompanying eight-member ensemble is truly inspiring, even to those outside the Sufi faith. With raw passion and emotional intensity, Asif Ali Khan’s magnificent voice recalls the inspiring words of his late mentor Nusrat: “In this atomic age, when everybody is after material gains, music can give spiritual calmness and peace of mind.”

Palestinian Arab Idol and pop star Mohammed Assaf is currently in the Lebanese capital working on his new and debut album. Assaf is also working on a new single that seems to keep his Palestinian brand a live "Ya Halaly We Ya Maly" “يا حلالي يا مالي, it sounds like a party dance song. But the good news is in the writing. The lyrics will be for Nizar Frances--the popular golden lyricist.

The music is the works of Rowad Ra'ad, though I am sure it will be more folklore flavored. This song will be his second original second in the post Arab Idol season. In other good news, the charming and seasoned Lebanese composer Ziad Burji, a song that Ahmed Madi wrote. In all cases Platinum Records found a pop star who help them move records, and sell concert tickets while doing good.

In other fronts, Assaf is the breath of fresh air the refugees in Lebanon needed, he is one of them and speaks with their voices in a place that has grown tired of their presence.

She is a Syrian Jewell who has stayed in Syria and has defended the choices the people of Syria make, she is a patriot and she is more than that. An iconic diva of romantic songs  for the past fifty years. She is the original classy lady of Damascus. She is Mayaday El Hennawy and everyone else who sing can never claim that stature. Her exotic yet very Syrian look helped her stand out at the get go, but her voice kept fueling her career.

Each time, one of her songs airs, I was being told an epic love story, I was hearing terrific music, and I was having fun. The song is about a man and a woman who are in love, and who sacrifice love for a higher purpose. This is immensely appealing, each of her songs is an emotional climax for the soul. This is why her songs are among the first things things Syrian immigrants would pack in their suitcases, she makes them feel home and spark the fondest of memories.

Her songs are ever fresh, such music she makes and makes available for the listeners is the kind one can grow up with and grow old with. Most of her songs are nothing short of out-of-the-body experience. This is the magic of Mayaday who appeals to men and women in different ways. This is her voice, passion, grace and class at work all at the same time. My list of other out-of-the-body classical songs is a short.

Here is a dozen of her finest and most memorable songs, short segemtns of those songs are included to give you a sampler of her true talent.

It's now a reality, the Donia Samir Ghanem album is out, most of us have been waiting for this album for a year. Donia did it right, she released almost the entire album in singles, she created one hell of a buzz and that kind of publicity is worth money. Donia is already a songstress even thought has not released an album. Now that changed, she is a vocalist with an 11 track album.

This way she has the music industry in her pocket, God knows she has the Egyptian film industry on speed dial. Now, there are about four songs you have not heard before....Now, the neat thing about this album is this...one guy wrote all these lyrics. He did two things, wrote songs for Donia as we know her and come to love her, the free-spirited lady who does whatever the mood dictates; and the other lady she could be, the sensitive and emotional lady who cannot move beyond this love. Both characters worked well. Amir Taima did it

Please buy this album, if you want to listen to it, the link is below....You do not buy it because Donia needs food, you buy it because it's the right thing to do. This is a debut album released in a critical time--singers are leaving the industry and finding odd jobs to make a living.

Alaa Zalzali is not a boy anymore, he is a man who has seen enough in life, so when he sings he better know what's up. I like the release of his new single, after a year of dealing with death in his family, he is ready to sing again, ready to amuse us for change.

Alaa Zalzali wraps his head around a lot of things, but his latest song where he is telling her she feels her and gets her. I love how this song is about how much love he has for this lucky lady. It's a happy track from a man who knows what it means to be truly and fully in love.

On other news, Alaa wrote the music in addition to singing, Amro wrote the lyrcis.
