Ahlam, The Most Interesting Woman In The Music Business

$

How come a talented singer with such a sweet voice, and larger than life talent make lame songs that feel like nothing. To me, this is Ahlam from the past ten years. She UAE gave birth to one songstress who is the diva of that corner....now she is a judge on Arab Idol, and she makes all the news by her flashy outfits, funny coordination and random comments.

Ahlam is fitly rich and she farts diamonds.....so music is something fun she does--she is booked for private weddings where she is at home. She is also a family woman. Noe of the songs she has been releasing are exciting, but her voice has always bee good.....take for example the latest single from her....it feels like hot mess.

Like Father, Like Son...#Egypt Mohamed Adawya

He is the son of a famous Egyptian and legendary singer and he happens to be really good at singing too. He is his own man who made his career away from his father and after his made a first album, in his second he collaborated with his father. Mohamed Adawia is a cool singer who seems to care about the youth.

Most songs about Egypt do not talk about the best thing about any country, it's the youth.  Adawia is talking about them, and their trouble of sitting on cafes with no hope of a better future. He takes no sides in the struggle here, but he did not like the false prophets of either side. He spends a great time with  the youth in his concerts around Egypt at different universities.

The festivities were launched in the Lebanese capital, and when a young, charming and talented Iraqi guy won, Baghdad picked the party and so did the parts of the world where Iraqi communities live.

Backstage on The Voice, there was lots of celebration and cheers among the winners, it was a big mess with a lot of media, interviews and good times. While some think Sattar is not the greatest voice, some would have given the trophy to his country men--the finalist on team Saber. But the fact, this is a well-timed winning that helped cheer Iraqis at home and abroad. Just take a look at the back stage with Music Nation was present and saw the festivity, interviews and even talked to the judges.

Happy to see Iraqis get a smile, and so did the producers and bodyguards. Sattar was in cloude nine standing next to Kadem Al Sahir.

Not every great song gets to be made and not every talented singer gets a music video. but Ramy Sabry has just hit the jackpot...as he made a music video where he is backpacking around what seems to be Europe, taking a journey on the road. Company matters in life, but it's so true on the road.

Ramy Sabry has made lots of songs, some he even sang, others, he gave away fro other talents. Now, this is a good music video or a video clip, with lots of beautiful shots of incredible nature. His band even gets to star along with him and the model. I like the simple nature of the storyboard. I think, the model was not dressed for a hike. But on the plus side, Ramy looked happy and his makeup is done well.

This is a loud song, meant for the clubs, and those who live life on the edge, there are speeding cars too and an open road. And we get that music have club scene. He wrote the music for the song, Tamer Hussein wrote the lyrics. Thanks to the work hip producer Hassan Elshafei. On another note, Ramy is also a family man, a father of two little kids

Kadim Al Sahir Deut With The Winner of the Voice Star Saad

Iraqi musician, hit-maker Kadim Al Sahir has not helped many males break into the music scene, but he did help half a dozen of ladies. Now, for the first time, he is giving a hand to one of his countrymen, Star Saad---the guy who just won the voice.

They are both Iraqis, Star was on Kadem's team, and Kadem made time to invest in this young man's career. The young star is happy to have any support, yet alone the support of an Iraqi legend of the size of Al Saher. Now comes the good news, Kadem is giving an original song that he wrote and composed all free of charge for Star to sing. It's an Iraqi song about a liar or a cheat whose words you cannot trust.

Feel free to give it a listen, I clearly hear Kadem's voice but not able to make out Star's voice, this is a safe Iraq dance beat. I think this is a smart move on behalf of Kadim to make nice with his people who can easily say he has not done much--perhaps he did but he won't talk much.

Yasmine Hamdan – 2013 – "Ya Nass" Not Your Everyday Arabic Album ياسمين حمدان – يا ناس

Yasmine from Soapkills Band (the first indie/electronic band to appear in the Middle East) has a new stellar album to her name.. The music of Soapkills quickly became the soundtrack to the vibrant, young arts scene which developed in postwar Lebanon, the band gradually acquired an emblematic status and, to this day, Yasmine is considered as an undergound icon throughout the Arab world.

Yasmine moved to Paris a few years ago, and started working with Mirwais (who was part of French electronic new wave band Taxi Girl in the 80s, and produced/co-wrote Madonna’s "Music" as well as the "American Life" album). Under the Y.A.S. moniker, Yasmine and Mirwais recorded the "Arabology" album, which came out in 2009.

After collaborating with CocoRosie for a while, Yasmine teamed up with Nouvelle Vague mastermind Marc Collin to create her debut solo album, a mesmerizing self-titled opus entitled "Ya Nass".

In order to write the melodies and the lyrics for these songs, Yasmine drew from the repertoire and the attitude of great Arab women singers from the middle of the 20th century, including some little-known or half-forgotten figures, such as Aisha El Marta, Nagat El Saghira, Asmahan, Shadia, Mounira El Mehdeyya and many more. Yasmine (who is an avid collector of records from that era) is inspired by these women, by the mischievous sensuality and the subtle, ironic social criticism which pervades their lyrics, and which is reminiscent of a period of freedom and emancipation in the history of Middle-Eastern societies.

While Yasmine’s vocals are definitely connected to traditions of Arabic music (to which she takes a personal, unconventional and fresh approach), the structures and arrangements of the songs are very remote from its codes. They might be described as a kind of elegant, mutant strain of electro folk pop, mysteriously springing from somewhere in the Persian Gulf… with acoustic guitars, vintage synths, spellbinding atmospheres and Yasmine’s multi-faceted, wonderful voice.

One element which may be lost to our Western ears is Yasmine’s playful use of various dialects of Arabic in her lyrics, which alternate between Lebanese, Kuwaiti, Palestinian, Egyptian and Bedouin, and use a lot of the code-switching and references so typical of Middle-Eastern humor.

This is the intellectual music or music for the Arab intellect, the average folks may need to grow up a little bit or go to college to start digesting this album. This is meant for a broader audience, but it's certainly different as it experiments with a number of styles, cultures, languages, and genres. She is a like a curious tourists who wants to do everything, like a kid at a chocolate store, he wants to try every piece. I respect and enjoy this vast musical collaboration  that will certainly travel worlds, connects people and teach them something new about the possibilities of the human spirit.

Your good looks made them go crazy....you are so beautiful you make them lose their minds...this is the new song from Lebanese entertainer and party guy Joe Askhar, it sounds like a wedding song! It's a wedding song that sounds like these Mexican songs.

Joe released the song and urged his peers to make more music, and the production companies to green light more songs because of the critical moment...too much pain Joe sees and he thinks art helps remedy it.

This is a happy song about a guy who is happy to get married to a pretty lady, and Joe a handsome man himself knows the importance of good looks. The music is by Joe Askhar from an old song that he took and expanded for a nee upbeat track.

A Reporter Unzips Myriam Faris's Dress, Arabia Wants A Peak!

Myriam Faris aside from singing, she stared in a musical, now she is staring in a new project. But with that press release did not make the news, but the dress and her zipper made the news. It's a Ramadan timed show, a role that she loves.

It will be a stiff competition for the season, and at least half a dozen Lebanese singers turned actresses will star in TV dramas. Watch her talk for few minutes and make little sense...what did she say? Then they asked her about salary....she would not talk. She will appear next to Hassan Raddad, the latest Egyptian playboy.

Her shoes and bag were covered, and the reporter unzipped her dress to see the brand. Where are you  headed to? First Haifa Wehbe flips someone on live television, points to her butt and asks people to lick it, now a male reporter unzips a female during an interview.

What Makes A Great Music Producer (Arranger) So Good?

$
0
0

A good music producer has this basic and simple idea, to actually listen to the music we were putting out and see if it was as good as it could be. That was something that didn't exist. It was just a conveyor belt putting stuff out. For example a producer will get  40 upcoming releases by artists. At the end of that, only two of them survived. And then we signed all new artists.

A talented  music producer or arranger never decide if an idea is good or bad until he/she tries it. So much of what gets in the way of things being good is thinking that we know. And the more that we can remove any baggage we’re carrying with us, and just be in the moment, use our ears, and pay attention to what’s happening, and just listen to the inner voice that directs us, the better.

This means he/she is open to using her instincts instead of going, “Oh, that’s not going to work.” Or listening to the part of your brain that goes, “Oh, that’s out of tune.” Or the part of your brain that says, “That’s too loud.” You have to shut off all of those voices and look for these special moments—these moments that you accept you have no control over. So much of my job is to not think—to be open to what’s there, and then use my intuition to see where it takes me.

But it’s not the voice in your head. It’s a different voice. It’s not intellect. It’s not a brain function. It’s a body function, like running from a tiger. This is why, we have people like Nasr Mahrous, Hamid El Shari, Hassan El Shafie who do this kind of work and achieve such fame. They too know that technology makes it easy to get everything “right.” But if you rely on technology to get it right, you’re removing all of the human drama. The way most music is made today is parts are created and then played perfectly and then copied and pasted. Everything’s in time, everything’s in tune, but it’s not a performance.

Shatha Hassoun Has To Get Paid

I found myself speaking to a close friend of mine who is an Iraqi musician and is his personal friend of most Iraqi musicians....he told me, Shatha Hassoun will do anything for money....little morals, wherever she can get paid, she will go. This may explain her work and focs on the Gulf region where does many private parties and concerts.

If true, I do not blame her, she is in the entertainment business. She is an Iraqi Moroccan, who lives in the UAE and spends a great deal of time in Lebanon. I am one of her fans, she has a unique blend of styles and an enjoyable voice who can do a number of songs and do them well. Here's a song from her about fate or things that we cannot control. It's about love and memories and killer eyes.

Shams Of Kuwait Pays Homage To Fayrouz and Egypt's Army

We know of two female pop artists from Kuwait, and both of them use Kuwait as their last name, we have Nawal--whom I Love and Shams whom I like. Both artists say Shams of Kuwait, Nawal of Kuwait which allows them to take pride in their own names, and to step away from the conservative families in that country.

Now, Shams released a cover song for legendary Lebanese vocalist Fayrouz--no east task for anyone. In general if were not too confident you will not do a cover since most folks get emotional about these songs. True we are protective of our music legacy, but I think Shams felt good about her cover. It's a beloved classic, and Shams paid homage to one hell of music legend.

Aside from that, Shams has a new playful pop song to which she released the promo. She released the teaser did took it away in seconds. Sad, she is showing to be an idiot here, when she thinks any Islamist is a violent person. There are violent extremists in Islam who want to murder people, those are needless to say are awful.....but please not in Egypt where their army and the police are faking it to win an election. Not all Islamic groups are one and the same, and here in the promo the Egyptian army is reading the Koran while some terrorists attacks them.

Beer, dupe, ladies in sexy dresses, and men with dirty minds is a lethal combination. This is a new music clip from a soon to be released film for adults starring Lebanese bombshell Haifa Wehbe. Sad day when a bunch of halfwits, unattractive Egyptian men get to star alongside a Lebanese eye candy that has no morals.

The bright and dark spot of this clip is the return of Egyptian common man artist Hakeem. He makes them dance, and makes stoners happy. The man is an entertainer who has sunk faster than the Titanic and now he is back....Haifa Wehbe puts on a sex show starring her butt and guys eat it up.

Even they get a little kids part of the sex show, sad these kids are copying what the adults are doing....dancing like drunk shitheads. Does the sight of a 50 year old lady dancing like a cheap stripper turn you off?

She is the only ass in this sausage fest party....see! Sad that, they hire a talents to do these kind of characters....other than being a marketing ploy, not much of it really is cultural.

I am pleased to see that Egypt's number one lead female actress speak on this movie. Yasmeen Abdel Aziz criticized the movie and the sexual nature and details in a simple phrase. Yasmeen's films rule the box office and she does not take of her clothes or reveal her body...showing once and for all there's a way to =make money and not be cheap.

Mc Gaza is hip hop artist, a very loud one who calls Gaza his home--he is a refugee like so many others whose family ran for their lives from the Israeli militias. Now growing up in a refugee camp, he has a lot of vent about...it's not enough that very few people in his age group get to live their dreams. Now, they are all placed under a collective siege.

I have always liked two things about Mc Gaza, his flow, and his rage. This is one fast rapper, he is like a highway for rap....he really cannot catch up with him....you have to listen and listen to each of his verses....He talks like an old man, and mixes his politics to make a bigger point about how screwed his people are.

This is a simple video he shot at home...but it drives the message home.

I was in Lebanon to visit projects that the nonprofit I work for has implemented to provide relief and support to Palestinian refugees fleeing the Syrian conflict. My first stop was Shatila camp, five minutes from the center of cosmopolitan downtown Beirut. It may as well have been a world away.
Shatila was set up in 1949 and remains today a maze of mildewy, dark alleyways between ramshackle apartment blocks that are stacked so close to each other the sun never makes it through the windows. Webs of wires and cables hang overhead and kids play in sewage.

Arab Idol @MohammedAssaf89 Goes Where No Other Singer Has Gone Before!

Less than a month ago, beloved Arab Idol Mohammed Assaf  went inside a refugee camp inside Lebanon to film his latest music video--a folkloric flavored Palestinian song. Walking through the narrow streets of the camp was tough for a star larger than life--he is a hero for so many who see him as one of their own to break out despite all odds.

It was so hard for the artist to work on filming his song due to the fans who rioted demanding to see their idol--he did speak to them and shared a day with them. Assaf's team chose Bourj el Barajneh, a Palestinian refugee camp located in the southern suburbs of Beirut, in Lebanon.

Access to these camps are restricted and if you are not from there, do not even try to get in. This seems like a riot song for parties and weddings meant for a hot summer. It might be Assaf going back to his roots.

Jannat is hardly the first strangeness to leaves her home in Morocco to pursue a music career elsewhere. There dozens of Moroccan artists who live in places like France, Spain, Egypt, Lebanon, UAE and such. Jannat calls Egypt her home--even when she speaks she tries her best to speak Egyptian.

For an artist as young as she is. her has a diverse music profile, has already released four albums and has become a household name. Here's her latest singles, after releasing an assorted pop album last year to a mixed review.

Does Jannat ever do a Moroccan song? Don't recall hearing one? Does she sing to Egypt every five minutes she does. Does she do concerts in malls around Egypt, you bet.

Hear this cheese voice message left to Jannat by the guy who loves her....this is about past love comes back to almost ruin ongoing love. This is a song for those who like to apologize as they fall in love. Jannat sounds very refined here, and shows some vocal muscles.

Amal Maher still has faith in Egypt. I did not like how she was one of the voices to pile on the Morsi regime before July 3rd. So in that sense she was one of these voices that invited the army to outset a democratically elected president--the first in that nation's history. The new track is about building Egypt one brick at a time, but the nation is loaded with bricks! They appeal to the little guy to get a job, but they do not build an economy that serves everyone.

The song is about pride in Egypt and its men the boys but not the girls. This is a silly song from one classy song...politics aside does this side help advance her career? No, does this country invite people to come back together, no! Does this song bring back the countless victims by the army and the police? No.

Egypt is written for my son--this is what her pal Mubrak said when he wanted his son Jamal to take over that country! Amal, I love your voice, but stay out of it...trust me if you were helping, I would be the first to cheer you! The song says, our men eat their enemies for lunch! Too bad their enemies are Egyptians, and every other Arab.

Mohamed Diaa is a cool Egyptian composer who has a soft spot in his heart for the ladies--he maried few of them and they tended to be songstresses. And when he happens to sing, he duets with a young female artist singing along his side. Last time he did it he was with Wa'ad Al bihiry, the Syrian vocalist. It was a beautiful romantic collaboration.

This time Mohamed Diaa is going for the cool and hip side, he picked another young vocalist Hadir Mahran. It's the battle of sexes, your love makes me so crazy, and you are so perfect! If I do not love you, I will die slowly. He is the big shot artist and she is the fan who loves her artist and let the games begin. Dia seems to like to lend his support to young talents--perhaps they happen to be good looking females perhaps.

The clip was shot in  Egypt October 6 city, and the beat is Turkish, some Turkish musicians were involved. Plus the song's mastering was done in between Egypt and Turkey. Dia's hair looks strange, it might not be real. I like his voice and style, but the clip leaves things to be desired--he seems to be board in some parts. A song about a pretty stalker still has place in Arabic music.

Salim Assaf wrote a good song and he handed it to Carlos to make a name for himself in Lebanon. Salim does romantic sogs, and those lyrics and music are all his. Carlos is a new young vocalist in Lebanon who is carving his own path.

Now, Carlos has been endowed with a very manly voice, that reminds me of the likes of George El Rasi and few others. This is good quality voice that makes you want to listen, it's a guy who is not spilling his heart out, but thinking out loud. It's the blues for the cool dude....Carlos is balding and that does not bother him. So, you know he has to have something other than the handsome look--he still good looking but the macho type.
