The Funky Summer Song Arrives! Thank You @Mtmofficial1

The humor-loving band MTM is making a splash literary. The Egyptian pop band with three members releases a new song two weeks before the month of Ramadan. If you know Ramadan, then you understand the importance of washing dishes due to that one large meal and guests due to social visits. But this has nothing to do with Ramadan.

The band is singing about someone who wants to live large, talking about their wish lists of car style and the giant speakers. Guys can dream--even broke ones. A humorous song with a catchy tune filled with street language. The band left no stone upturned as they wrote this song, they covered pretty much just about everything about the Egyptian summer.

But the song keeps it real and tells the guy to go back to washing dishes. The song pokes fun of pool season, and soccer season and Facebook activities. This is a funky summer song that combines best of Western world and the Egyptian street. So now we know that the cool kids will be playing this song as they party this summer.

While MTM is not as prolific as other bands in Egypt, this songs reminds us that they are the fresh band that does have a different take on music. The Alexandria natives Mikey, Takki, Mahmoud come to lead this summer with a fun song that is actually fun to listen to. This is their comeback song after a 7 year sabbatical. Another surprise was MTM's using the same female vocalists from an iconic 90s song "Kol El Banat BitHibak"

The Last Morccan Star To Thrive In #Egypt

$

Jannat is a girl who came from Morocco about ten years ago, and in these short years she came to be the best-selling pop star in Egypt. You will never know she is not an Egyptian though. She sort of helped reshape girl pop, she beat many male pop stars to the sale pie, she is bold, and she is talented. But she is also a business.

She also comes across as a good girl, sweet voice that does happy songs and filty songs. while many pop stars from Morocco skip Egypt, Jannat was the last pop star from the Kingdom to do well and have a thriving career in Egypt. The newer ones seem to chose the Gulf. Jannat did the Samira Said thing and make Egypt her home since the early 00's.

There is simply  no bigger names from Morocco in Egyptian pop.

Remixing Tamer Hosny And Elissa Works Surprisingly Well ...A Duet? ‬‎

Getting a duet between two type A singers has never been easy, but it might be closer to reality once these two artists join the same production house. Elissa rules her music genera with an iron fest, she has been a dominate voice for more than a decade now. Tamer Hosny has his moments too, he ruled Arabic pop for almost fifteen years--sure he had his ups and downs.

To the best of my knowledge, they have never shared a stage together, and for sure they have never sang together in a duet. But a DJ got to work and gave us a remix that shows how compatible these two artists are. The thing is, they are both smart entertainers and hard working talents who have major backers and advertisers. They are definitely good and I would imagine they would have a hit song if they wanted to, but egos might be too big.

Tamer has done many duets--mostly with international stars and one with one of his female cousins. Elissa did that duet with Ragheb Alamah and another with Fadel Shaker. I do not think Tamer likes to play with other pop stars in Arabia--he does not even invest time in friendship. Elissa is a princess and she deals with the world like that. Meanwhile, enjoy this remix.

Morocco's Mawazine Music Festival Receives Amal Maher

Mawazine Music Festival just got started and its going to be as big as we have come to remember. Kicking off the festival was none other than Egyptian pop artist and diva Amal Maher who gave her first ever concert since the release of her latest album a month ago.

The fans at the festival were ready with requests and Amal gave them what they really wanted to hear witch is a song from her new album and it seems to have got them energized. Amal worked the crowd and it seems to have gone beautifully. I like live concerts, not all artists do a good job, Amal does well with her vocals and has gotten better at the showmanship.

Elissa Bests Taylor Swift And Lady Gaga

This is amazing news for the Lebanese pop and romance diva. She ranks first among her Arab peers and 11 on the world music chart. Hell, she even bested Lady Gaga and One Direction. I am sure all the other pop stars in the Arab world are jealous as Elissa is one of the most talked about pop stars in the world.

This could be because she just released a new music video and she is on X factor judge and mentor chair. Whatever it's, I am certain team Elissa is celebrating with the bubbly. Not to overlook the controversy with her cover of the national song "Mawtny" and the botched pronunciation.

Adding A Bit Of Class To Bruised Islam (Video) @AxeerStudio @MayAbdElAziz @TheAshrafMajed

Worship does not have to be boring, just ask any Southern church in the United States. The Muslims can also worship through chanting, reciting or dare I call it singing? Sure Muslim-themes music has evolved. Poetry and drums do not cut it anymore so there are more musical elements to incorporate.

Enters the stage Ashraf Majed doing his piano magic and accompanied by the great vocalist May Abd El Aziz, who sounds like Whitney Houston. May sees herself as a musician and a teacher who believes in peace, love, respect, and tolerance. A timely message in these dark days. May is unafraid to hit the high note to make her point.

The duo add a lot of class to this song that seeks forgiveness from the skies above. Ashraf Majed is a celebrated musicians in Islamic music--he works with Awakening Records. He is also a graduate of the American University in Cairo.

I love this song, we need more of those songs that teach forgiveness (which is almost becoming a foreign word in the region) I love those lyrics but I love the wrapping that comes with it, the simplistic and minimalist approach to draw attention.

On Friday, December 16, 2011, BeatRaid Released "Scent of Christmas" along with its music video as a special single for Christmas. This is the work of BeatRaid

Being a practiced musician, Michel Nehme decided to start a band back in 2007. A common friend recommended Dary as the vocalist. Having the same taste and passion for music they joined together with other friends of Michel to form the first line up of BeatRaid. They played covers for a while then they (Michel and Dary) decided to make their own songs together.

Sammy Elie, also a common friend that was inspired by Michel’s composing skills and Dary’s vocal abilities, wrote a song and handed it to Michel who composed the melody on the same night. The song instantly caught Dary's ears and was captivated by its oriental feel that was "unintentional and spontaneous" as Michel has said.

Diana Mardiny Sings in Arabic Titles Her Song In Broken English - Look 2 Me

More and more Arab singers are choosing to title their songs in English-even though the song is in Arabic. Rouwida Attieh just did it with her "First Dance" song this year. Now comes a new pop songstress with the name Diana Mardiny. The new song of hers "Look 2 Me" I have no idea what this title is meant to represent?

The song is an average pop song in Arabic that has little to do with the English title. I would perhaps place most of the blame for this assault on the lyricists and music composer Rashed El Shikh. I do not know what he was thinking. He wrote a decent song in the fashion of Nancy Ajram, but then he went with English title.

Diana is an up and coming singer form Lebanon who would have been signed up for a contract in the early/middle 00's, but right now it would be difficult.

The Egyptian Lebanese American Italian songstress Lara Scandar does not have a new song or a new album. What she does have is a picture of hers that will make it difficult to tell if that's the real Lara or not? The former contestant on Star Academy credits a stunning work of makeup artist for her fresh and completely different look.

Lara shared the new pictures on her social media profiles and people were generally in love with this talented artist. Some joked that they could not tell if it was really her. One picture had already generated more than 20 K likes after 6 hours of being posted.

This is ho you get the social media working for you, give them a big of surprising mystery. Lara pulled a magic trick so few have done it this well before.

Elissa Screws Up A Live Performance Again (Video)

Elissa should not be messing up on her live performances. Why? She had a bad name for being the weakest artists for live performances, where he voice live used to disappoint. That took years to fix, and for about five years Elissa has not had to deal with such accusations.

Elissa seem to miss those days as in Morocco's biggest music festival at Mawazine, Elissa had a bad show according to a number of accounts. Attendees have said, she has forgotten some lyrics and her voice did not deliver the perfect pitch. I would have said those are just jealous people being silly. But watch the video below.

It was reporting that Elissa is used to using a playback version where she lip syncs most of her songs. But for the festival in Morocco, she went with the live show performance and that seems to have left her hanging.

Elissa did do a good job in her fashion choice of white jumpsuit, that was awesome.

Getting Fresh With Arabic Music, Azizi And Her "taraPOP" @AzizatBeirut

Aziza is a Lebanese Arabic "taraPOP" singer/songwriter. Debut album AZIZA to be released soon. I wrote about Aziz more than two years ago here. Not much has been done in the spotlight, but Aziza seems to have been so busy working on her second act and her debut album should be releasing any minute now. This proud young woman who likes the oldies, yet understands the relevancy of pop songs. She mixed them together and came up with something the masses can enjoy.

"taraPOP" describes Aziza's evolvement in mixing Arabic tarab with pop music. Her songwriting is based on reflections from her daily life, her moods, aspirations, fears, and how she responds to the outside world in her relationships with people, causes and the society. In the end, the outcome is Aziza's private vision of lyrics, melodies, and experiences .And.. this is what to expect from Aziza's upcoming debut album that will be released in 2014. A short teasers is below.

Aziza has a very capable voice so, she can cover more grounds. She dedicates her talent and time to her music, but marketing should not be ignored. She has a lot to offer and it's a  shame if more people do not get to experience it. She gets to renew old songs, but also make new songs that feel Déjà vu. It's like this feels familiar and fresh both at the same time. This is the magic of Aziza's style. Funky, classy, free, and groovy all at once.

Attieh Teams With Anthony Touma For Kol Leila #DWTS #Summer

Anthony Touma from Lebanon and Mohammad Attieh from Egypt got together on Dancing with the Stars where they competed for the title--each with a female dance partner. The two dudes took their relationship to the next level by doing the next logical thing. Attieh is a guy who won Super Star--Star Academy a decade ago. Anthony Touma appeared on the MBC Voice. Since both of them are singers by profession, they just released a song.

The new song is in both Arabic and English with a hint of Spanish. I like the song, it's done well and it doe not feel all over the place. These are two cool friends making a song together. Everyone brings his A game to this Arabic-English track. A nice attempt at a party song for the summer that keeps up the temperature low.

The Inescapable Cyrine Abdelnour Releases A Twisted Music Video @emusicismylife

Cyrine Abdelnour is everywhere on TV, she is a big attraction to all the big producers and networks for want to assemble a TV drama. She almost plays the same role every time, the girl that falls in love and faces trouble or the good looking lady that men fight over. Sure that kind of stuff is tired if not expired, but she keeps Cyrine Abdelnour living in a big mansion and partying around the clock.

Cyrine Abdelnour did released three singles this year, a movie and a number of TV shows (Sorry, I do not follow) And comes the music video about a failed romance. Few can act as well as Cyrine Abdelnour, she plays the good girl who is being mistreated by an ungrateful guy. Sure they live in paradise and they are filty rich, but happiness is not all there.

He is a cheater--what else did you expect? There are few looks that Cyrine Abdelnour brings out--that swimsuit pool part seems out of place. She sings for over six minutes. Then an accident happens and she rushes to be by his bedside. Even though he is a jerk, she will be there. Some amazing work has been done here for the makeup. But there is an emotional surprise. The music video mixes things around and confused me a bit. What's with that asylum picture with the lady who is confined in that dark space?

This part is about jealousy, overthinking things, being possessive, and few other things including taking drugs for mental purposes.

The One Guy Who Makes Arabic Music Happen @salhendi

Salem Al Hindi is the top boss at Rotana music. He is the CEO or the equivalent of top manger who overseas just about every contract/deal with Arab artists. He is a celebrity himself as he can be seen alongside all the big and hot names in Arabic music. He can also be mean sometimes, and he does not look kindly on attacks from pop stars at his company.

In a recent interview, Salem seemed candid about Arabic pop and the business, he gave the interview to that popular magazine "Saydaty". He has few nuggets to say

  1. Rotana has the biggest names in Egyptian pop Amr Diab and Tamer Hosny
  2. I have special relationship with Amr diab who can be very difficult to deal with.
  3. Amr Diab is so demanding and he likes to oversee every aspect out of fear for his brand and his legacy.
  4. Same goes for Tamer Hosny, we do all we can to satisfy him artistically.
  5. Some Lebanese singers are so demanding as they overdo it, but cannot point to an artistic problem.
  6. Same artists forget that they are no longer as important or as big of a name as they once were, yet they think they have the upper hand with Rotana.
  7. Most of their demands are to show off and to talk about their prestigious.
  8. He does not mean Elissa, whom he likes and calls easy to deal with and he respects for that.
  9. Amr Diab is still under contract with Rotana, so there is no negotiation.
  10. Angham, just joined the company now where they will mange her businesses and produce her music.
  11. Mohammad Assaf is an important voice, but  as long as he is happy with his production company, good luck to him.
  12. He think the world of Najwa Karam and Assi Hallani, he is so diplomatic when he speaks about them and about their rightful place in Rotana
Little is known about Salem's personal life, but I feel he is the figure most Arab pop stars like to be locked in a room with. Why do I get the feeling he is not a big fan of Assaf?

Listen: Marwan Chami - Khebez w Meleh 2014 The #Salt Song

Marwan Chami wanted a song about the salt of this earth, a song about a man who does a good deed, only to get bitten in the ass for it. This is Marwan Chami, who brings the party with his voice with the latest single from this handsome devil. Bread and Salt is the title of his song, he is only singing it, the lyrics and the music is pretty fun to listen to. The title is the Arab way of saying, "we go back", we have broke bread together so we are close.

This is a Levant style which is popular in more than one country. Marwan is Lebanese and he is upbeat, the song released on a number of radios, the impressive thing about Chami's voice is that he sounds as an old man who has a lot of wisdom to offer.

I like the title, and I like the material and the style flows, it's a happy sad song.

Rana Samaha Treats The Khaleej To A New Song @Rana__Samaha From @Alshaikh2

Rana Samaha is trying a new approach. She is going for humor and self deprecation. She is also singing a song in the Khaleej. I believe this is the first time, she sings in that dialect, she is doing a lot of duck face and some freaky eye movements with these long lashes.

I like the music for sure, it's some of the best music for the Khaleej without turning the non-Khaleej off. The lyrics are very simple as not to confuse the young pop songstress. Rana is trying a number of things here, dancing with her hands and keeping focused as the camera is in her face.

Not many pop stars would let us get so close, Rana is doing it here. I appreciated how the song kicked off with a line that said, "this song has nothing to do with reality." Rana has been active doing a lot of different things like hosting a radio show, she is a big star in the social media with a committed fan base. Well done Rana, this is a real gem.

Young artists have to be way more creative than their predecessors, becuase there are so many different ways for one to market themselves and it has become so hard to be different in this age. Rana stands a bit taller and sings a lot louder.

Meet The New King of Morocan Music, Viral Saad Lamjarred

The new song by Saad Lamjarred did generate 35 million views in under a month and then clock is still counting for his hit song "LM3ALLEM" In the history of Arabic pop on YouTube, there has been only one exceptional song that has done better than this track. But it got 90 million views in a year, we are talking about 35 million in a month so, there's a big chance Lamjarred will catch up. The song has already been turned into countless memes and so many copycats are taking on the song.

I shall not name that other song because I hate its message and the folks who brought it to life. Though Saad Lamjarred make a name for himself on Star Academy in 2007, he did take a more global approach to his music. Saad did not want to go and do songs for money, instead, he did artistic songs with local flavor and international influence. It worked. Instead of going with the popular thing and the quick buck, Saad did his own work. Take for example he has only one full album to his name but a dozen of singles that generated so much attention.

He achieved an international place by being very local. Maybe what helps him is his unique style that no one can copy. He sort of developed his own brand and it became his money maker. He has a great sense of style and brings so much energy to the stage. People just love him and you can see his songs and live performances he engages the fans and audience. He is also unafraid to improvise and rap if it helps. I like his Western style but make no mistake in everything he does, he says he is Moroccan.

Arabia's Fame Whores Gather For Murex d’Or Awards

I really like the backstory behind this award. The Murex d’Or, French for the Golden Murex award, is the brainchild of Lebanese physicians Zahi and Fadi Helou and recognizes achievements in the domains of acting, singing and entertainment in Lebanon and the Arab world.

The award’s name was a tribute to the murex seashell, which produces the Tyrian purple dye, widely used during Phoenician times. In a nutshell, this is a big ego trip for the underemployed physicians and their fame-hungry celebrity friends. It's one of the most exclusive awards and a party that takes on the Lebanese capital.

It's done well and celebrities would kill to get a trophy that night. Needless to say all the big wigs in Lebanon chase the organizers to get tickets. You see politicians, business types, media personalities, fashion/style figures and army generals seated next to other big fancy pants Arab entertainers.

Here's the hard-working team behind Elaph stalked artists on the red carpet and got a dozen of interviews. There were plenty of characters in attendance. Enjoy this longest 20 minutes of fame whores on ego trips.

See all your favorite singers speaking about being honored at this event--do not worry many of them paid for it one way or another. It's like getting an award for doing one's job--can you imagine?!

Wael Kfoury Almost Died But He Lived To Break Another Recrod

While on a flight with the Royal Moroccan Airline, the Lebanese crooner got the scare of his lifetime. As it seems the airplane he was on had some engine trouble which forced the pilot to keep the airplane in the air 30 minutes longer than it was supposed to. There was a lot of commotion and  fear on that flight, which promoted the Lebanese singer to go into the cockpit and sit next to the pilot to make sure everything was okay.

Wael has on his way to Morocco to take part of the famous music Festival Mawazine. This is Wael's return to the festival as his last appearance there was in 2012. Luckily, Wael made it to the festival and not only did he deliver a stunning performance, but he manged to break a new record. Attendance to his concert surpassed 120 thousand attendees. The record before Wael was held by Maroon 5 and Mariah Carey. This made a nice closing night for the big festival and for this savvy entertainer.

Here's The Best Song From Beyond The Grave By Al MazZikaty Band

God has blessed Khaled Mostafa with a delightful voice. He performed a song about the fallen in Egypt. The song about those who have been killed in vain. I think the song is about the victims of the city of Port Said soccer massacre. Martyr are a dime a dozen in today's Egypt which is unfortunate.

Many songs have been written about them, but none of them feel as real and heartfelt as the one by Khaled Mostafa, the indie artist from Al Mazikaty Band. This young artist seems to have a good presence, and all the ladies in the audience seem to be in love with him. As for Khaled, this song should make him famous, he showed sincere emotions.

The song is very dark, talking about graves and the size of the place where we are laid to rest. The song is titled, they only get the RIP affix to their names. It's a love song from beyond the grave....a guy who has given up his life and has no way of coming back...got nothing in exchange. He has become a tale, and now has been celebrated for a minute and now he rests in the dark in a coffin.
