One Direction's Zayn Malik Reveals Dramatic Weight Loss

It's not yet Ramadan and Zayn is shedding some serious weight. I hope he is not sick or anything.

It seems the pressure of being an international pop star is taking a toll on One Direction singer Zayn Malik. The 20-year-old Brit appears to have recently dropped a significant amount of weight from his already-slim frame, and an insider tells Us Weekly it's likely due to the stress of his busy schedule.

"He's lost a lot of weight," the source says. "He started to eat healthy a while ago and working out to get in shape as he had never trained before. He wanted some definition."
(Indeed, Malik recently tweeted about enjoying a nutritious snack. "Think I'm gonna have some weetabix with a banana now," he wrote on June 2.)

"He's always been the slimmest of the band members, naturally," the insider adds, "but I think he's running around a lot, getting stressed, and not putting health first."

"Running around a lot" is an understatement. The British-born teen idol -- along with bandmates Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson -- has been working nonstop on One Direction's 2013 U.S. Take Me Home tour, which kicked off Thursday, June 13, at Fort Lauderdale's BB&T Center.

In the next three months alone, the group is expected to perform more than 35 shows in cities all over the U.S. They're also busy doing video shoots and promotional appearances for their new movie, This Is Us, due later this summer.

Who Will Win The Arab Idol 2013 Finale? Updates

  1. The Palestinian (Arab) Assaf had a good show on the show before the last. He did two songs, one where he is at his finest, the sincere soul who loves with passion and seals his heart once he has found that special one. His second song is the one song he had to do, the show needed a party/dance song and he is so good at those. Arab Idol is a show that needs to appeal to different people, some like to romance, others like to dance. Assaf has that good combination and he is master of his style. He is in it to win it...and he knows hell will break loose if he doe snot bring home the title. He has now become so much bigger than himself, his town in Gaza and no matter what happens next, all eyes will be on him and his next move. He has far more superior sympathetic and supportive votes from around the Arab world--he wins the emotional bank account war. His best chances are with Ragheb Alamah and Ahlam. Among big Arabic names which have declared their support for him, Asalah, Latifa, Assi Hallani and Angham. Sara Farah form Syria also called him the Arab Idol.
  2. The Egyptian Ahmed Gamal had an average night. He was good, but there was no "wow" moment. He did what he has done well in the past, do a mixture of fun songs and dramatic ones. He is a nice guy with a great smile and a warm gestures. I thought his second song was better that his first. He is a shy soul, and the judges sort of like him--his best friend is Nancy Ajram. He has something Assaf does not have, 80 million Egyptians who like to support their home boys and girls. Ahmed might have two curses going for him, the first being an Egyptian and the last person to win Arab Idol also was from Egypt. The second one, he did a top-notch performance of a Mohammad Abdel Wahab song, more than a month ago. Until now I have yet to see the same level of groove on stage. Gamal also has scores of Egyptian celebrities who have rallied around him. Will that translate to votes, I do not really know, but he is a fun act.
  3. Farah Yousef was the bomb, all of sudden she got back in the game and put the best possible version of herself on display. She did touch songs, the crowd loved her and showered her with love throughout her performances. The judges were big fans, I felt Ahlam was a big harsh with her, but she has good points in her critique. In the past I have dismissed her as a pop girl, but as of tonight, I saw she has some real skill, grace and a unique signature voice where her emotions come through every time she works at them. I think she might be the surprise runner up. I thought she was a tough act to follow, but then the judges threw their darts toward her and she got shaken. One should be surprised good art has always come from Syria. She has the velvet soft voice and delicate personality. She is the voice that might bring Syrians back together. I think the music not catching up with her voice is not her entire fault. She has her own style and they work based on timing and blocks. I am seeing many comments about her possible runner up status.
  4. Ziad Khoury, the weakest among the remaining four seems to have had the greatest night of his career. It was like if he was replaced with another person who has charisma, personal connection and someone who wants to fight for the title. I would not be surprised to learn that he had the best coaches as he has really won the night, but it might be too late. His performance was something that he has never done before. His charm and transformation were obvious, Lebanon is back in the ring for one last hooray. He has a style that's very close to Assaf especially in those party songs. Assaf does have something better going for him--he has actually sang in parties and weddings. If Zaid leaves the show, he should walk tall, he has challenged himself and it showed tonight.
I think Assaf has been everyone's favorite to win the title. He is the surprise act, but as of tonight's performance, anyone on the show deserves to win. However, Assaf is a winner who comes from a truly unlikely place, and his win might change a lot of thing. He was never in the danger zone, and has always delivered the songs and the quality entertainment viewers have come to expect form this smooth singer. He can make you cry and convincing you he is bleeding from inside the heart of his hear. When he performs a song it's like he gets in the original artists head and know his way of delivering that song the way he or she did. And the next second he can get you to party like their no tomorrow. He has fans in Yemen, Sudan, Algeria, Morocco and Saudi Arabia. He is like a time traveler, he came form the time when great musicians not computers walked on God's earth.

This has been a really good album that was made because the artist fought for it. Shyma Helali who came to fame in 2007 after she has appeared (and done well) on the Star Academy program. Back then, she even performed a duet with Assi Hallani. But then this Tunisian native Shayma Helali did not take her chances. She can sing and her romantic soul is on display here.

This time, she released a single six months ago, a music video and then came the buzz. Now her album gets a major release and I hope she does well. She is one of those capable voices with a good soul, the grace of a queen, the class of a young princess.

Her versatile voice in performing Tarab (slow melody) songs is obvious. But she also does the pop songs to get in with the young crowd. She sings in Lebanese, Egyptian and the Gulf dialect. Her Tunisian song "Hakka" is the icing on the cake. It took her few years but her album makes it worth the wait.

Ali Amr is a vocalist and qanun performer, a Ramallah native (by the way of Morocco) whose work incorporates and reflects a legacy of Arabic music while it forges ahead to new frontiers, embracing many different styles in the process. He follows in the footsteps of legends like Marcel Khalife. Ali is an award-winning artist who dazzles his audience as he smoothly leaps from traditional Arabic sounds to jazz and other contemporary styles. His soaring technique, melodic ingenuity, and unparalleled grace have earned him acclaim as a virtuoso on the qanun.

Ali Amr's talent has not gone unnoticed as her has already performed with Maqamat in Sweden, Norway, Dubai, Germany, Istanbul, Holland, and the United States. He has already made an appearance at the United Nations in New York. In 2007, Amr performed for the President of Palestine and the Princess of Jordan.

The incredible thing about Amr is his young age and the level of excellence has has arrived at. He does amazing fusion of Arabic music and jazz. While many other artists claim to experiment with fusion, Amr is one of the few who actually do it right. That means he observes the fine balance between the different styles and genres.

Mohamed Ablan, Egyptian Pop Is Still At It

Mohamed Ablan had to sing this song, just like he had to wear that scarf, and has to drive that car for his music video. He has a tangy voice. But the music video for Wana Maak is pure nonsense. The music video is literary the couple moving around--not dancing and staring at each other's eyes. That's all, and that has never felt original.

This is an OK pop song, Ablan has a voice that works for those songs, not too pleased with his style, but he has the sway moves. The actress appearing in the clip, did not have to do much acting. The song was released in the nine track album last year from the up and coming Ablan.

He flew to Italy to make this music video and Mazzika, his label is pushing him. Ablan also enjoys one treasured friendship with Samo Zaen, the pop star whose opinion he often seeks. At least according to one news report, the Italian director of the music video asked Ablan to star in one of his moves.

Samir Sfeir Sticks It To Trashy Singers And Greedy Media Types سمير صفير زلزال 2013

Samir Sfeir has made a lot of people famous with his pop songs and the music he has been able to put together. However, he has always had people who hate him and he does not seem to care. Samir has always had a thing for singing, so it's no surprise he is back with a new single which he has titled Zilzal, the Arabic word for earthquake.

I have no clue what the subject matter of the song is, something tells me it's critical song of the media and the lousy noises that passes for entertainment. This is a good subject, and a timely song for this time. He sticks to business types, greedy media tycoons and talentless half baked voices.

It plays like a story, which Samir is telling his listeners. It comes with relatively fresh music, the subject is the treat. Samir seems to want people to see him part of the good art circles, not the throwaway entertainment. He is breaking up with those types who are not doing it for the love of the game. But to be honest, I think some may see Sfeir part of the problem.

But this song is made for certain people, he may wrote this song for his peers and media people. The jaded people will also embrace this song. The sad part, the very conservative and traditional religion people have been saying the same thing for decades now.

Not sure where Mona Amarsha gets her money from, she for a young pop diva, she makes so many music videos. Too many of her peers are sitting him with no work, she does not have this problem. I can understand how much money she makes from private concerts in the Gulf where she has now called it a home for years.

This Moroccan lady knows how to earn her paycheck. I do not even, think her voice is that unique. She is a persona, and a pop character, as a voice she is near average. As for the music video I learn, that those youth in the Gulf spend so much time and money trying to be anybody but themselves.

She is gorgeous and she knows that. She has this Bollywood beauties look. Go to 2:37 and see the boob shot. She will tell you it's the director! Look, artists hire the director, and they can also fire him or her. Again Mona is goes back to school and be the trouble maker she comes across to be.

Ahmed El Fouly, A New Kind Of Cool

Ahmed El Fouly is the man of the hour he cannot just forget her. He is unable to move forward, the love of the past still haunts him and he has failed to learn the skill of forgetting  So he is bringing it back with a new single recounting the love story he has lived.

It's an incredible song coming from a place of pain. The young talent is making waves with his new release. I am a fan of his warm voice and the way he paces his voice. This song is for the depressed among us, it's not depressing, but it's real. Real love comes with drama, and Ahmed El Fouly sound slike a guy who has seen more than his fair share of woes.

He is cool by being himself, not by wearing some nice shades or having a hairstyle that grabs the attention. Ahmed looks like the average Arab guy, with a lovable face.

Arab singer have have made pop songs in English before, in fairness, most of them suck. Now, Tamer Hosny is trying to do a couple of them. Currently he is filming a song which is titled Arabian Nights. A very stereotypical name indeed. He is talking about cultural exchange, but the music I hear is pretty shitty pop--I can be wrong here. This is part of the international album Tamer has been working on for about two years now. He and his wife Bassma have just been blessed with a little girl.

There are two international stars who appear in the music video Akon and Pitbull. As of what these two guys have in common with Arabian nights it beats me. He is going after American pop icons, something tells me he is investing so much money in this project that had him live in the States for almost a year. It seems they have a pharaoh theme....he is not an international star by any stretch. No matter how hard he thinks. The only people who know him are the ones who get paid to sing with him.

He is no longer the pop star he used to be prior to 2011. No success really to speak of. Tamer is trying to make a comeback with fireworks. While I admire his efforts to do something different, but I feel this is a waste of so much money. Tarik Freiteck is directing and they are in Miami in some palace, pool and crazy rides. The director calls his work genius. He also says that Shakira is a big fan of Tamer Hosny music. Rumors had it, they will be collaborating on a project.

What do you think? What do you think of this trio where dancers do their thing? Is this Arab culture or is it Egyptian??

Alaa Wardi is one hell of an indie artist. He makes soul touching songs about topics that no one seems to pick on--no Arab pop singers have anyway. He is not afraid to experiment with free style music and anything that comes to mind. He has also shown that he is not about money...on his official website, you have different ways to get the album, iTunes, Pay What You Want and wait for it For Free.

This is alternative rock at its finest. Alaa refuses to be defined by border--his website does not mention his origins. He is Iranian by the way of Saudi Arabia who became famous in Jordan? He formed Hayajan band, the band in 2011 to channel his most creative work. Alaa Wardi wears too many hats, vocals, keyboard, acoustic guitar and star.

Alaa cares about one thing, his craft. He is not about the dollars and change. He loves to work with others and chart new territories to bring back some fresh musical fusions. Props for the cool album cove, it delivers some mystery that Alaa has become.

Elisaa And Haifa Social Media Rivalry

Haifa Wehbe has one of the largest Twitter account for an Arab star, among them she is also the most engaged with her followers. She manged to get her pop album the MJK to be on top of iTunes. She has been caught in a rivalry for more. But it seems her follow Lebanese songstress Elissa may have won the round in 2012:

  1. Both have released celebrated albums this year in roughly the time time--summer of 2012. Haifa had the most DJ buzz, Elissa had the most sales in Arabia--though Haifa sold much bigger overseas.
  2. Haifa wrote 5952 Tweets from her account in 2012. Elissa wrote half of that number yet she has double the followers.
  3. Facebook is where Haifa has 17 million fans, Elissa beat her with 2.5 million Facebook fans.
  4. Haifa says the most interesting stuff and she engaged her fan. Elissa sounds like Opera most of the time and in fact she has blocked Hot Arabic Music Twitter from accessing her tweets.
  5. Elissa does not engage neither the press nor her fans--it's one way conversation. She seems to have not found love like in 2011 when she was rumored to be gearing up for a wedding.
To make things more fun, Myrian Faris may be the number on famel artists on Facebook with real followers or so she says she has a certificate to show for it.

He might have lost his mind, but he will stop at nothing to retrieve back his valuables which he says were stole by some thugs who belong to certain political parties in Lebanon. He called them names, pigs, dogs and such. And said it more than once, I will murder you! You are a target to me! Yes, that's a direct threat to you Mr. Mayor.

Amon his gems, I will murder Hassan Nasrallah too. Referring to the leader of Hizballah. He also said, he promised his sheikh, not to do anything right now, but he won't wait for long. He said, that these guys attacked us with mortars and various kinds of weapons.

He seems to be angry and like he was consulting with the devil. Here's what I do not get, he has a villa where he has jewelries and cash worth for a million dollar.  Fadel Shaker is stupid to pick a fight, and making this a big deal turning this into the Sunni-Shi'ite tragedy.

Nayef Al Nayef, Finding Undetected Good Music in The Kingdom

$

Nayef is a well regarded contemporary composer in the Gulf region, this time he is giving himself his finest melodies as he launches his Rotana album. Naturally, his album is Gulf centered and the music is something they are impressed by over there. This Saudi artist has what seems to be a bag of limitless musical acts inside his heart, mind and soul.

The album can be found on this official artist YouTube link. I have enjoyed "Weno" and think it has something special. "Ghally" sounds like a mixture of old school rap with a desert beat. I think he is up to something beautiful with "Men Gher Leeh". He sounds very sweet and consumed with the emotional state created by those romantic lyrics. Nayef Al Nayef is already getting some well deserved attention at home

This is a good album that will certainly fly under the radar for many of us, but those who know good music, will be able to distinguish the true talented that went into making this record. He did not really have to make a good album, just a decent one, but he raised the bar. I think that was possible because he wrote his music as well.

Nayef came a long way form his first appearance on that popular singing competition program. His comeback to the spotlight he has a lot more to offer. Saudis and those non-Saudis should tune in and remember to give his "Belham Redena" a listen with an examining ear.

They are the cream of the crop, they last standing three, the finalists of Arab Idol, and tonight it all ends. Tonight we find out who will take home the title. Will the title go to Palestine, Egytpt or Syria? Will another girl take the title? Will another Egyptian bring it home? Will this be an upset from Palestine?

All will be revealed tonight. Not before, we get a song from the trio, just like they did last year. The music video is a giant advertisement for American car Chevy! This company sells so many cars, already, but why stop there? Sell Samsung phones and cool sunglasses. The producers drove the finalists to the beach and to a local palace and filmed this music video.

A mellow song about life and living. Not the finest song by the trio, it's an OK song that in my opinion fails to bring their best attributes. Yes, it's a dreamy song and has a lot of cars, do girls give so much attention to those beasts. Assaf is looking dapper, Jamal has his cute boy and tangling eyes. And Farah is a classy diva already. I think she puts the finest performance among the three.

I like the celebrity red carpet and paparazzi. The lyrics are of an Egyptian lyricists, and the music for one of Lebanon's most original composers.

Will Mohammad Assaf Win The Arab Idol Title Today?

$

0

Arab Idol is wrapping its second season and there are three very fine voices vying for the title. They are all great and entertaining. Aside from their talent, among them, I ask who has generated the most media attention in Arabia and around the world? A hint, he is also the one with the most views on YouTube, and the most votes as told to us till now.

Assaf represents a welcome fresh breeze in these turbulent times, when Palestinians are frustrated by occupation and partisan politics. Moreover, he has shown the world a different face of Gaza. When Arabs used to think of the besieged enclave, they would feel pity for “these poor people,” or think of “tough resistance,” “hot spicy food,” “conservative people” and such.

Assaf somehow has managed to make Gaza look cool, and not just a place down on its luck. He has proven that there are good-looking people in Gaza, and that there are guys who are unafraid to show tender emotions such as love (to which his legions of female fans attest!). He’s introduced a different take on patriotism and national pride. Most of all, he is a living example that true talent has no home and can emerge from the harshest circumstances.

There is not much the average Arab man or woman can do to uplift the spirit of a people living under occupation; by voting for Assaf, however, people throughout the Arab world could send a personal, if symbolic, message to Gaza. Even the Israeli army spokesperson who speaks to the Arabic-language press has shared on social media that he follows Assaf and likes his voice. Assaf wrote back that the Israeli official’s love brings no honor to him as the occupier continues to grab Palestinian land and hold Palestinians prisoner.

Mohammed Assaf comes from an average Palestinian home and has struggled just like everyone else in Gaza. Yet he refused to give up and limit his dreams to getting a visa to some European country. Home videos show him singing as a little boy—and today he is the talk of millions who have happily surrendered their hearts to him.

P.S. I will be surprised if the title goes home with Farah Yousef,

Note, how the last song performed by each Arab Idol is either nationalistic or patriotic, where the theme is about loving one country, and unity. This was the theme for this time, and each of the songs stood tall, where we are even before the songs are performed already have weak spots for those songs.

I thought the loudest among them and the most fun belongs to Mohammed Assaf  who owned the stage, and started a riot in the Beirut stage. The sweetest and most dramatic song for country Egypt was for Ahmed Gamal. The Syrian did the strongest song among them all.

Great choices, a wonderful send of for the season. results will be announced tomorrow. Assaf;s song was the most sought song among his fans, he sang it once before and blazed the stage, this time we knew he could do just that and the audience danced away their sorrows. His song mentioned Jerusalem and The prophet of Islam. Note, how his mom gets up and gets worked up. He kept fans guessing, will he or will he not perform this popular song? I am glad he did. The song is about that traditional Palestinian scarf, it's all about pride and wearing one colors.

This song of his is very Palestine and very Gaza, those are the kind of songs they perform at wedding, a mixture of fun, love and country (olives, figs, lemon and wheat). Not only did he sing, but he also danced and so have the judges and the esteemed guests. He is freaking maestro, emotions are hard to describe to see this 19  years old do his thing on stage. See how proud his mother and his people are....and he did not have to fire a bullet!

Note the guy who ran to the stage to dance with Mohammad, he played along till the guards came to escort that crazed fan. Assaf, you are this rare perfume that spreads around and makes everything it comes in contact with so much better.

Ramallah went crazy when he performed his famous song 'Raise your keffiyeh, raise it" - محمد عساف - على الكوفية. The guy had the streets filled with boys dancing like there's no tomorrow. They were very proud of this brilliant performer who came from among them. They so much love him, the things he sings about and most of all they love their country. They may not live in it, as it always lives in them.

Gaza might be close to Ramallah geographically, but in terms of reality, it's farther than the moon due to the occupation and now the political divisions. There's no Gaza and Ramallah, there's only one Palestine as it has always been and it took Mohammad Assaf to remind us of that fact. He did so on his final set on Arab Idol, June 21, 2013 he pulled it off his grand finale.

BREAKING: Mohammad Assaf Wins Arab Idol With The Most Votes

The skinny guy from Palestine who dazzled his way to into many hearts is the rightful winner for Arab Idol in the second season.

Each time Assaf performs, a judge tells him he should be the Arab Idol. In his last performance he did a cover of one Saudi song beloved in the Gulf region and he had that region head over heels. He got into the song and made it his. This was great because it opened the floodgates from the affluent voters from the part of the world. In this way he has locked in three important corners of the Arab world: he sang songs from Beirut, did covers from one Egyptian legend and now did the same thing with a Saudi classic.

Unlike many past and current participants on such shows, Assaf is never shy, and never intimidated by the audience. He feeds off the energy and unleashes his own fireworks to dazzle the crowd. He knows how to work the crowd and engage them creating an well-rounded musical experience. One and off stage, he has shown that he is very comfortable and never feels like a stranger or an awkward soul who happened to have a good voice.

He took home the title, a nice car, and a music contract with a premier music production company. But the best thing was the love of the millions around the world who came to listen to him and to understand what it means to be a guy like him who comes from a refugee camp.

Earlier.

Ragheb Alamah's son tweeted that Assaf has the most votes, and he will take the title if there was no conspiracies. The former Palestinian Salam Assaf also tweeted, that Assaf has snagged the title.

Nothing official yet, no announcement has been made. Tune in he is about to perform his last act on the show.

Arab Idol Winner Mohammad Assaf Is A Moon Not Just A Star

There way way too many stars, but the moons are few. This is what I think when I think about Mohammad Assaf. He is not something we have many off. He might be one of very few things the people of Palestine from all walks of life agree on! He is talented no doubt. He is like this exquisite perfume that everyone wants a piece of. In this way, he changes all things he comes in contact with to the better. The aroma of his music is real, and it's truly contagious.

He did not have to fire a bullet or write a poem, but he has already won the admiration of so many inside Palestine and in the world. His presence builds a bigger case for Palestine, he brings joy into the lives of his fans and those who might not even like music. He is one of the people, but on stage he is a dynamite of excitement.

Tonight he won, tonight he made the little guy proud. He was the hero of the unlikely people. The Yemeni haunters so adore him, the Libyan desert and coast voted for him, the Algerian villagers cheer him on and the Sudanese university students shower him with their kind love. He is also big in Arab countries where music and art is centered. These people could care less about the show or the music, but having a guy like Assaf was a compelling cause for them to tune in. He does away with the guilt, the son of Gaza is here to tell you not to forget about Palestine and also party with each one of you. It's a beautiful thing that has never happened before.

I think it's safe to say, the people who look beyond the country label have chosen him! He is the artist from Palestine for all the Arabs, while Palestinians are specially proud of him, just like all thing Palestine--it belongs to the people who love that land, and not just reside there.

Sure, past stars of similar shows we cannot remember their names. Some may even forget him, but for a brief moment he gave us what seemed like an unforgettable moment that united Arabia and made them happy.
